Title: GIS Analyst

Responsibilities: 

  • Take a lead role on geographic/spatial analysis projects

  • Provide consultation with clients

  • Participate in presentations to clients on results of GIS and other analyses

  • Utilize ArcGIS and other specialized software to conduct geographic analyses

  • Program specialized analytical and reporting functions using Python, Java, or other appropriate programming language

  • Develop client and server-based software

  • Draft research reports, articles, and presentations

  • Create descriptive and analytical maps for reports

  • Create and maintain GIS databases

  • Use SPSS and/or other statistical software for data analysis

  • Use spatial and traditional statistical techniques to analyze health-related phenomena

  • Create visualizations using computer design and graphics programs (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Tableau)

Qualifications for the position:

Required Education

 

  • Master’s degree in geography, urban planning and/or other social science or epidemiologic discipline, or a Bachelor’s degree in in geography, urban planning and/or other social science or epidemiologic discipline with 3 years’ experience working in a related field.

 

Required Skill Set:

 

  1. Advanced level knowledge of ArcGIS and experience with geo-statistical software (e.g. SaTScan, GeoDa, R-based geo-spatial functions, etc.)
  2. SPSS and/or SAS experience
  3. Functional programming skills in one or more relevant programming language, including Python, Java, Visual Basic.NET, etc.
  4. Experience in creating and maintaining spatial databases along with the use of SQL
  5. Experience in web development including Javascript applications
  6. Experience assessing impact of community context on community health (e.g. transportation, food availability, etc.)
  7. Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  8. Evidence of professional-level written communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research with special populations (youth, minority, elderly, etc.)
  • Computer design and graphics experience using Adobe or similar platforms
  • Data visualization experience using Tableau, R or other similar programs
  • Experience with community coalitions and coalition processes

 

Physical requirements: Able to sit for long periods of time
