Job Description: The Institute for Community Health Promotion/Center for Health and Social Research (ICHP/CHSR) at SUNY Buffalo State is seeking to hire a full-time community coalition coordinator to oversee the general day to day activities for work on the Partnership for Success (PFS) objectives of the West Side Youth Development Coalition (WSYDC). The incumbent will serve as a resource person for the coalition and community, assist in developing community partnerships, and engaging a diverse range of community members to join the coalition.  The PFS Community Coalition is part of ICHP/CHSR's larger West Side Youth Development Coalition, whose mission is to prevent alcohol and drug misuse by youth on Buffalo's West Side through environmental prevention strategies.

Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate PFS coalition-building and prevention activities in alignment with the overall goals of WSYDC as identified by the PI and senior program leaders, including the Coordinator of WSYDC

  • Keep current and expand your knowledge base in the areas of prescription drug abuse and heroin use

  • Enhance the presence of WSYDC in the community through active collaboration with community sectors, OASAS, coalition members, and Local Governmental Units by implementing strategies consistent with the Strategic Prevention Framework.

  • Coordinate with the CHSR fiscal agent regarding oversight of the coalition’s budget expenditures

  • Develop reports on the Participant Level and Community Level Instrument-Revised (PLI and CLI-R) for the federal cross-site evaluation reporting system

  • Work as a team member on issues such as data collection tools and processes and evaluation measures for implementation activities to ensure that program goals are being met

  • Timely submission of mandated documentation (e.g., timesheets, required reports, etc.)

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and five years of experience managing or coordinating a community-based public health or health-related agency or its programs

OR

Masters' degree and relevant experience in health promotion, public health or health education, policy/planning, public administration, or closely-related health centered program.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework

  • Two or more years of experience promoting health using environmental strategies in community settings

  • Experience or knowledge of prevention of substance use and abuse, health disparities, and the social determinants of health

  • Ability to work both independently and on teams

  • Self-starter willing to learn and take initiative, but always in coordination with other WSYDC coalition PIs and Project Coordinators

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills

  • Excellent public relations, marketing, and social media skills

  • Ability to report outcomes into web-based systems

  • West Side or Black Rock resident preferred, active in neighborhood institutions with diverse community members

 

Job Related Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional heavy lifting of up to 30 pounds

     

Travel Requirements:

  • Readily available transportation in order to attend and participate in community group or agency events and meetings in Buffalo’s West Side and the greater Buffalo area

  • Travel to bi-annual PFS Grant Learning Institute in Albany; possibility of attendance at other trainings and conferences
